The film Requiem for the American Dream has been out for a few months and is available online through outlets like Netflix. This blog has written about issues of income inequality, the need to consider how a post-employment society might work, and the advance of automation and artificial intelligence.
The film is a good summary of the forces at work in today’s society. The theses of in film would, only a few years ago, seem like a fringe-group conspiracy theory. Today it looks like a matter-of-fact recitation of the issues, real and perceived, that appear to have propelled events such as Brexit and the U.S. Presidential election.
This blog recommends that you watch it and make up your own mind as to which arguments and points of the film, if any, are convincing to you.
